This is not a book to get if you are new to Reiki.
It's not even the book to get if you have only a couple of books in your Reiki library.
But if you are a Reiki teacher or someone curious to discover more about the way Reiki was practiced in Japan by Mikao Usui and Dr. Hayashi, then this book will prove illuminating.
After taking you through family history - in particular that of Yamaguchi's famous mother who was trained by Dr. Hayashi - Light on the Origins of Reiki gives a first-hand account of how Reiki was taught from the 1920s onwards in Japan.
It provides valuable information on what Mikao Usui and Dr. Hayashi taught, as well as explaining crucial cultural difference between Japan and the West - so necessary to better understand Reiki as it was originally taught.
Other highlights include a fascinating section on scanning for byosen; an elaboration of the various levels in traditional Reiki; and an explanation of Jikiden Reiki - the style that Yamaguchi's mother created and passed onto her son.
Conclusion: This is not a book jam packed with techniques (although it does provide a fair few). But if you want to learn more about Reiki as was originally conceived in Japan, this is probably as close as you will get.
Books written by Japanese Reiki experts of Yamaguchi's stature are few and far between.
